Mažeikių švyturys athletes win 12 medals at European championships

Athletes from the Mažeikių švyturys sports club secured 12 medals during the European classic powerlifting and equipped powerlifting championships held in Druskininkai from August 2 to 9. In the classic powerlifting competition, nine athletes from Mažeikiai earned six medals, including a second-place finish by Nerijus Strazdauskas in the open group and a victory by Vitoldas Beržanskis in the M1 veteran category.

In the equipped powerlifting championships, seven representatives from the club won six additional medals. Notable performances included Jovydas Gečas taking second place in the junior category and Nodaras Kryževičius winning the M2 veteran category. The Mažeikiai district municipality has congratulated the club for their achievements.

Meanwhile, Druskininkai also hosted significant wrestling events in August. Following an international Greek-Roman wrestling tournament, the city hosted Level III training courses led by a United World Wrestling (UWW) delegate for freestyle wrestling coaches from across Lithuania. Additionally, national team members participated in training sessions organized by the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency.
