Maersk expands AI-powered Trade & Tariff Studio for customs compliance

Maersk has expanded its AI-powered Trade & Tariff Studio, evolving the tool into a connected customs intelligence platform. The enhanced software integrates trade planning, compliance, and audit support into a single workflow to help businesses navigate increasingly complex global trade regulations and tariff uncertainties.

By utilizing conversational AI and automated classification, the platform allows users to interact via natural language, upload product photos, or submit technical documents to receive instant guidance on product classification and duty impacts. The system is designed to support decision-making earlier in the supply chain, enabling companies to model how sourcing locations, materials, and tariff changes might affect landed costs before manufacturing or shipping begins.

Key features include bulk catalogue classification for large product portfolios and continuous scanning of regulatory developments and customs rulings. The platform also addresses requirements from various government agencies, such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Mark Zeitlin, Global Head of Customs Innovation at Maersk, stated that the goal is to make customs more predictive and closely tied to business decisions made long before goods reach a border.
