Maersk expands Mediterranean capacity via Algeciras

Maersk has integrated the container ship AS Petronia into its SLN service to increase capacity across its Mediterranean Sea route. The vessel, which sails under the Portuguese flag and has a capacity of approximately 2,556 TEUs, connects various eastern and western Mediterranean ports, including Algeciras, Casablanca, Tanger Med, Mersin, Haifa, Alexandria, Valencia, and Barcelona.

This expansion aims to strengthen trade connections between the Western Mediterranean and markets in Turkey, Israel, and Egypt. The AS Petronia is currently operating on voyages 634W and 635E. The SLN service underwent a restructuring in April 2025, which involved removing the Fos-sur-Mer stop and adjusting the sequence of Spanish port calls.
