Maersk increases shipping and fuel surcharges in multiple markets

A. P. Moller – Maersk has announced significant pricing updates and surcharges across several international markets, citing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and rising energy costs.

In Croatia, the carrier is increasing intermodal fuel fees for truck transport from 4% to 7% effective September 7. Additionally, terminal handling charges at the ports of Rijeka and Ploče will rise on October 1, with standard dry container fees increasing from 180 to 185 euros. Maersk noted that security situations near the Strait of Hormuz have created a costly environment for land and intermodal operations.

Other regional updates include:

• Cyprus: A 12.5% fuel surcharge for truck services will be applied starting September 7, 2026, with prices reviewed weekly. • North Macedonia: A 20% fuel surcharge for truck services will also take effect on September 7, linked to Middle East-related fuel costs. • Brazil: Revised local charges for optional services, such as Bill of Lading amendments and late documentation fees, will be implemented starting October 1, 2026, due to inflation and ancillary costs.
