Maersk launches new logistics center in Germany

A. P. Moller - Maersk has commenced operations at a new 71,800-square-meter logistics center in Herleshausen, located in the German state of Hesse. Situated at Panattoni Park Bad Hersfeld Ost along the A4 motorway, the facility is designed to serve as a central hub for cargo distribution within Germany and across neighboring European markets.

The site comprises 62,800 square meters of warehouse space, 6,100 square meters of mezzanine space, and 2,900 square meters of office space. While inbound operations began in August, outbound distribution to various European delivery centers for an online retailer has now started.

Maersk expects the facility to eventually provide between 300 and 400 permanent jobs, with staffing potentially increasing to 1,000 employees during the peak retail season from October to December. The center currently employs approximately 150 people, with recruitment ongoing.

In alignment with sustainability goals, the facility includes solar panels, rainwater collection systems, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Maersk is currently targeting DGNB Gold certification for the site.
