Mafalda celebrates 62 years with immersive exhibition in Buenos Aires
The iconic comic character Mafalda celebrates 62 years since her debut in the Argentine magazine Primera Plana on September 29, 1964. Created by the late cartoonist Quino (Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón), the character has become a cultural symbol of social critique and idealism.
To mark this anniversary and honor Quino's legacy, the “Mafalda Inmersiva” exhibition is debuting at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires. The 1,300-square-meter experience uses 360-degree projections, virtual reality, and life-sized scenography to recreate famous settings from the comics, such as Mafalda’s home and the Don Manolo grocery store. The exhibit aims to engage visitors through sensory elements, including specific scents and original music, before embarking on a tour through Europe and Latin America.
Quino, who passed away in 2020, is remembered for using Mafalda to address complex themes like politics, inequality, and peace through a child's perspective. His work continues to resonate globally, having been translated into numerous languages.
