Mafia II and III: Definitive Editions likely receiving PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades

New ESRB rating listings suggest that Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are being prepared for native releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While both titles are currently playable on modern hardware via backward compatibility, these new listings indicate upcoming upgrades specifically tailored for current-generation hardware.

These native versions are expected to offer technical improvements such as enhanced graphic performance, faster SSD loading times, and potentially higher frame rates, such as 60fps. This follows a similar pattern seen with Mafia: Definitive Edition, which recently received a native current-gen update.

The potential release comes amid renewed interest in the franchise following the launch of Mafia: The Old Country. Although no official announcement has been made by publisher 2K or developer Hangar 13, the appearance of these titles in the ESRB database is considered a strong indicator of an imminent release.
