Magallanes Free Trade Zone faces strategic redesign for future growth

The Magallanes Free Trade Zone is undergoing a strategic evaluation to define its role in the region's economic development over the coming decades. Regional Finance Secretary Manuel José Correa emphasized that the zone must evolve beyond traditional tariff-based models to focus on attracting investment, improving logistics, and integrating new technologies and services.

A recent Cadem Barometer survey of residents in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales, and Porvenir highlights strong community support for this evolution. Approximately 95% of respondents believe the Free Trade Zone should continue to grow by expanding services provided to the community. Additionally, 84% of those surveyed perceive the zone as being in a state of constant growth, noting recent infrastructure developments and improved service ratings in areas such as cleanliness and gastronomy.
