Magallanes region leads Chile in breast cancer incidence and mortality

The Observatorio del Cáncer’s latest report shows that Chile’s southern Magallanes region has the highest incidence and mortality rates for breast cancer nationwide. The data also place the region second in the country for lung and pancreatic cancer cases and reveal the longest delays in receiving GES‑covered oncology services.

Deputy Javiera Morales, a breast‑cancer survivor, used the findings to call for stronger prevention measures, early detection, and faster access to treatment. She urged women in Magallanes to perform regular self‑exams, attend scheduled check‑ups and mammograms, and to seek medical advice promptly rather than postponing care.
