Magallanes Region Prioritizes Investment and State Capacity

Regional presidential delegate Ericka Farías Guerra presented a public account in Punta Arenas, outlining Magallanes' main challenges—public security, long waiting lists, high cost of living, limited connectivity, housing shortages, low formal employment and stalled investment. She set a vision to 2030 for a safer, more connected, integrated and orderly region, emphasizing an open‑door policy, on‑the‑ground presence and coordinated action to turn the area's strategic advantages into effective development.

Senator Alejandro Kusanovic Glusevic highlighted the near‑final legislative stage of the National Reconstruction Plan, saying it should stimulate private investment, especially in salmon farming and other industries. He noted that only a tiny fraction of the region's 4.7 million hectares of fjords are currently used, calling for simplification of bureaucratic procedures and more effective sanctions to unblock stalled projects and improve infrastructure.

Both officials stress the need to attract capital, reduce administrative bottlenecks and strengthen state capacity to drive growth in the Magallanes region.
