Chile's Talca hosts children's swim meet as Magallanes club heads to World Cup

Around 200 children from various municipalities of the Maule Region gathered at the Fiscal Tempered Pool in Talca for the Regional Swimming Encounter of the "Crecer en Movimiento" program. Organized by the Ministry of Sport and the National Institute of Sports (IND), the event aimed to promote physical activity, confidence in the water and community bonding. IND regional director Javier Mariscal said, "It is a great joy for the Ministry of Sport and the IND to open our doors so children can enjoy their winter holidays with healthy, recreational activities."

In a separate development, the non‑profit club Clan del Mar Austral from Punta Arenas confirmed a delegation of 23 swimmers who will represent Magallanes at the Winter Swimming World Cup 2026, to be held at the Perito Moreno Glacier in Santa Cruz, Argentina. The athletes will compete in multiple distances ranging from 25 to 300 metres without wetsuits, showcasing the region’s growing presence in cold‑water open‑water swimming.

Both events highlight Chile’s focus on expanding sport participation from youth to elite competition.
