Lalka adaptations: New film and Netflix series released

The classic novel ‘Lalka’ by Bolesław Prus has seen two major, distinct adaptations released in Poland within a two-week period in September 2026.

Directed by Maciej Kawalski, the cinematic version offers a more traditional interpretation and has already attracted one million viewers in theaters since its September 30 release. The film features Marcin Dorociński, Kamila Urzędowska, and Marek Kondrat.

In contrast, a six-episode Netflix series directed by Paweł Maślona debuted on September 16. This adaptation takes a more modern and controversial approach, incorporating new subplots and contemporary characterizations that have sparked debate among viewers regarding its departure from the original literary source.
