Magdalena Lazarova designated as acting Prosecutor General

The Prosecutor's College of the Supreme Judicial Council has designated Deputy Prosecutor General Magdalena Lazarova to serve as the acting Prosecutor General for a six-month term, or until a new permanent official is elected.

As part of the procedure, the Council will formally ask Lazarova if she consents to the position. If she agrees, a proposal will be submitted to the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council on October 15 for a final vote. This move comes as the current six-month term for acting Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova is set to expire on October 22.

Lazarova, who has been Deputy Prosecutor General since April 2026, is next in seniority within the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office. If she declines the role, the Council will proceed to the next person in the hierarchy.
