Colombia regional news: legal charges, health alerts, and economic shifts

Various regional developments are reported across Colombia. In El Playón, Santander, the Procuraduría General de la Nación has filed charges against five officials, including mayors Luis Ambrosio Alarcón López and Wilmer Alexander Barrios Cote, for allegedly failing to comply with a judicial ruling regarding a citizen's benefits. This failure reportedly led to the embargo of municipal accounts.

In the Magdalena department, dengue notifications have reached 7,486, with Santa Marta accounting for 37.4% of cases. Meanwhile, economic data shows Santa Marta experienced a significant reduction in monetary poverty, dropping from 37.9% to 28.6% in 2025, though rural areas in Magdalena still face high poverty levels. Meteorological reports indicate widespread rain expected across the department.

National issues include President Abelardo de la Espriella demanding damage reports from 204 municipalities following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. In Bogotá, traffic fatalities have risen by 29.6%, and authorities have captured a man for assaulting a security guard in the Modelia neighborhood.
