Magdeburg begins 800 million euro Rawsburg residential project
Construction has officially begun on the Rawsburg urban district in Magdeburg-Salbke. The project involves the redevelopment of the former Reichsbahn repair works (RAW) site, with an estimated investment of 800 million euros.
The development aims to create approximately 2,000 apartments alongside commercial, educational, and leisure facilities. While the site was previously known as a ‘lost place’ due to the poor condition of its industrial halls, work has started on renovating the historic head buildings. The first residential units are expected to be completed by early 2028.
Investor Hüseyin Altaş, who acquired the land in 2022, confirmed his commitment to the project despite the recent cancellation of Intel’s planned chip factories in Magdeburg. Local officials expressed hope that this large-scale residential project will attract further investment to the city.
