Magetan landslide cuts off road between Tapak and Sukowidi villages

A 30-meter-high cliff collapsed on Saturday night, October 24, 2026, near Panekan District in Magetan, East Java. The landslide completely blocked the connecting road between Tapak and Sukowidi villages, involving large rocks, soil, and trees.

The incident occurred around 10:00 PM WIB during clear weather. Local officials, including Tapak Village Head Sumarno, suspect the landslide was triggered by a drainage system using PVC pipes that failed to manage water volume from the Sumber Nganten water source intended for rice field irrigation.

In addition to blocking transportation for motorcycles and cars, the landslide caused power outages in the surrounding area. Emergency response teams from the TNI, Polri, and the Magetan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) have been deployed to the site. Due to the size of the debris, heavy equipment is required to clear the path and restore access.
