Magic Display Technology unveils Sonae Denpa disaster prevention TV tuner

Magic Display Technology Co., Ltd. has announced the development of ‘Sonae Denpa’, a disaster prevention TV tuner designed to plug directly into a smartphone. The device allows users to receive terrestrial digital broadcasting without relying on internet connections, Wi-Fi, or external power sources, utilizing only the smartphone's power.

Designed to prevent information isolation during disasters such as earthquakes or power outages, the tuner uses high-performance Sony chips to capture local terrestrial signals. It features a battery-less design to eliminate fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, making it suitable for long-term emergency stockpiling. An optional high-sensitivity long antenna is also available to capture signals from up to 100km away in areas where local towers may be damaged.

The product will be available for pre-order starting September 15, 2026, on the crowdfunding platform Makuake, with various early-bird discount tiers available through October 31, 2026.
