Magione authorities report rise in illegal waste dumping

The municipality of Magione is facing an increase in illegal waste dumping, a situation Mayor Massimo Lagetti has described as a ‘social plague’. Between January 1 and September 21, 2026, the Local Police and the Environment Office conducted 17 interventions regarding the abandonment of urban, special, and hazardous waste.

Recent incidents involved the dumping of hazardous materials in two different areas of the municipality. These materials require strict and costly disposal procedures. Following investigations, authorities have identified and reported ten responsible parties: eight individuals for urban waste and two legal representatives of companies for special and hazardous waste. These individuals are now subject to judicial investigations and have been issued the maximum fines permitted by law.

Three investigations remain open to identify the authors of recent special waste dumping, while in four other cases, the perpetrators could not be identified, though the waste was successfully removed. The administration noted that it has had to allocate additional economic resources to manage the increased costs of investigations and the complex disposal procedures required for the recovered materials.
