Maglut Heavy Industries unveils rare earth separation technology
Maglut Heavy Industries has unveiled ARC-1, a chromatography-based separation system designed to refine rare earth elements into high-purity oxides. The company reported that its pilot-scale technology has achieved purity levels exceeding 99.9 percent using real-world feedstock.
Adapting techniques used in the biotechnology industry to purify medicines, Maglut’s water-based approach aims to provide a more efficient alternative to traditional solvent extraction, which is often energy-intensive and chemically heavy. The company is vertically integrated, designing and manufacturing its own proprietary resins and ligand technology to maintain a globally competitive cost structure.
The development targets the domestic processing of rare earths, which are critical for electric vehicles, defense hardware, and advanced electronics. Currently, the United States relies heavily on foreign suppliers, particularly China, for refined materials. This domestic push aligns with upcoming regulatory requirements for defense contractors to diversify their rare earth magnet supply chains.
