Magnesium supplement sales double at Matas in Denmark
Sales of magnesium glycinate have doubled at the Danish retailer Matas compared to last year, with two magnesium-based products now ranking among the chain's top five best-selling supplements.
Medical experts, including senior researcher Morten Hostrup from Bispebjerg Hospital, have expressed surprise at the trend, noting that most healthy Danes already consume sufficient magnesium through a balanced diet. While social media trends link the supplement to improved sleep, increased energy, and cognitive function, researchers state there is currently no strong evidence to support these claims for healthy individuals. Neither the Danish Health Authority nor the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration provides general recommendations for healthy citizens to take magnesium supplements.
