Magnesium supplements gain popularity in the Balkans as experts stress proper usage
Magnesium, a mineral involved in over 300 biochemical reactions, is increasingly marketed for better sleep, muscle relaxation, stress management and digestive health. Nutritionists note that many people do not obtain sufficient magnesium from food sources such as nuts, leafy greens, legumes and dark chocolate, estimating a deficiency in about 60% of the population.
Experts warn that not all supplement forms are equivalent: magnesium glycinate is often recommended for sleep, relaxation and stress reduction, while magnesium citrate is preferred for relieving constipation. They also stress that supplements should not replace a balanced diet and that product quality varies, urging consumers to choose reputable brands and consult healthcare professionals before beginning supplementation, especially if they have chronic conditions or take other medications.
