Magnitude 3.6 earthquake rattles Bosnia and Herzegovina near Zenica

A shallow earthquake of magnitude 3.6 was recorded at 06:18 local time on 30 June 2026, with its epicenter 44 km northwest of Sarajevo and 14 km east of Zenica, at a depth of seven kilometres. Residents in Zenica, Sarajevo and surrounding areas reported brief shaking that woke some people and caused noises, with reports ranging from a short two‑to‑three‑second tremor to stronger vibrations on higher floors of buildings.

The European‑Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) noted that the quake was relatively weak and that, as of the latest information, there were no confirmed reports of material damage or injuries. Seismologists indicated that such moderate quakes are fairly common in the seismically active zone of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
