Magnitude 4.4 Earthquake Shakes South Kuta, Bali
A magnitude 4.4 shallow earthquake struck the south Kuta area of Bali on 7 August 2026 at 12:59 WIB, according to the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG). The epicentre was recorded at 12.09° S, 114.37° E, about 378 km southwest of Kuta, with a depth of 10 km.
The BMKG reported no immediate damage in the nearby Garut region of West Java. The Badan Penanggulangan Bencana (BPBD) of Garut, led by secretary Abud Abdullah, ordered village‑level monitoring to detect any potential impacts. Earlier, on 5 August, a magnitude 5.3 quake centred near Pangandaran was also felt in Garut, but BMKG classified both events as shallow and not capable of generating a tsunami.
