Magura: Former Chhatra Dal leader assaults police officer

In Magura, Bangladesh, Naimuzzaman Nayan, president of the District Private Car and Microbus Owners' Association and a former Chhatra Dal leader, publicly assaulted a police officer. The incident occurred near the 250-bed Magura Sadar Hospital when Constable Md. Imran Hossain honked his motorcycle horn near Nayan.

Following the honking, Nayan and his associates reportedly intercepted the officer, leading to a physical altercation where the officer was slapped and his motorcycle keys were forcibly taken. A video of the incident circulated on social media, sparking widespread anger among law enforcement personnel.

Local political leaders, including the president of the Municipal BNP, visited the Magura Sadar Police Station to mediate the situation, describing it as a ‘misunderstanding.’ Nayan subsequently apologized to the officer to settle the matter. Despite the apology, the incident has drawn significant local criticism, particularly as Nayan reportedly faces prior legal allegations involving drugs and illegal weapons.
