MAHA Summit addresses chronic disease and healthcare innovation
The second Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Summit convened healthcare innovators to address the chronic disease epidemic and expand patient control over health. MAHA Action cofounder and President Tony Lyons described the epidemic as the “defining domestic crisis of our generation.”
The summit included discussions on 14 topics, such as artificial intelligence, early cancer detection, healthcare affordability, and the use of psychedelics in medicine. A specific panel focused on mental health, noting that approximately 16.6% of American adults report taking antidepressants.
Kabir Nath, CEO of Compass Pathways, highlighted that 4 million Americans suffer from treatment-resistant depression, where conventional medicines like SSRIs have failed to provide relief. Panelists discussed developing psychedelic medicines to be used under medical supervision as a faster-acting alternative for patients at high risk for suicidality.
