Mahaicony road crash kills 77-year-old pensioner

A 77-year-old pensioner, Balram Ramnarine of New Amsterdam, died following a three-vehicle collision on the Farm Public Road in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. The accident occurred around 10:00 am involving two hire cars and a motor lorry.

Ramnarine was a passenger in a car driven by his grandson-in-law, 39-year-old Sheik Mohamed, alongside 15-year-old Odesh Mohamed. The group was reportedly en route to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for therapy following Ramnarine’s recent hip surgery.

According to Mohamed, the collision occurred during heavy rain on slippery roads after a lorry allegedly overtook two vehicles and struck his car head-on. While Mohamed and Odesh were treated and discharged from Mahaicony Public Hospital, Ramnarine succumbed to his injuries at the facility. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
