Nagchandreshwar Temple opens for annual 24-hour window in Ujjain
On the occasion of Nag Panchami, the Nagchandreshwar Temple in Ujjain opened its doors for a rare 24-hour period, a tradition that occurs only once a year. Located on the second level of the Mahakaleshwar Temple complex, the shrine houses an 11th-century deity featuring Lord Nagchandreshwar with seven hoods alongside Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Mahant Vineetgiri Maharaj of the Shri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhada performed the initial Vedic rituals and puja-abhishek. Following the ceremonies, the temple was opened to large crowds of devotees arriving from across the country. Local administration and temple management officials, including Collector Roshan Kumar Singh, were present to oversee security and arrangements for the influx of pilgrims.
Simultaneously, the Mahakaleshwar Temple held its traditional Bhasma Aarti during the third Monday of the Sawan month. The deity was adorned with a silver Sheshnag crown, Rudraksha malas, and various ornaments. The rituals included Panchamrit abhishek and special offerings, drawing significant crowds of worshippers to the historic site.
