Mahakaleshwar Temple holds Bhasma Aarti in Ujjain

The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain held traditional Bhasma Aarti ceremonies during the Ashwin lunar cycle. Large numbers of devotees gathered to witness the rituals, which included the opening of the temple gates following permission from Lord Virabhadra.

During the ceremonies, the deity underwent various forms of Shringar, including decoration with Bhang and the application of Tripund on the forehead. Rituals involved Abhishekam using Panchamrit—a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juice—accompanied by the sounding of bells, conch shells, and drums.

Following the tradition of the Mahanirvani Akhara, Bhasma is offered to Lord Mahakal. Devotees queued from the night before to participate in the prayers and view the deity's decorated form.
