Mahakaleshwar Temple observes Bhasma Aarti on second Sawan Monday

Large crowds of devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain to observe the second Monday of the Sawan month. The occasion was marked by the traditional Bhasma Aarti, which began in the early hours after the temple doors were opened.

This particular Monday held religious significance due to the rare occurrence of Som Pradosh and the Budhaditya Yoga. According to temple priests, because of the Som Pradosh, Lord Mahakal observes a fast, and a special 'falahar' (fruit-based) offering was made to the deity. The deity was decorated with special adornments including bhang (cannabis), sandalwood, and various dry fruits.

Singer B Praak visited the temple to seek blessings and noted the efficient arrangements made by the administration for the devotees. Local authorities implemented strict security, crowd management, and medical services to facilitate the influx of worshippers at major Shiva temples across the region.
