Mahakaleshwar Temple holds grand Bhasma Aarti in Ujjain

A grand Bhasma Aarti was held at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on October 4, 2026, during the Navami तिथि of the Ashwin month. The event drew large crowds of devotees from across the country and abroad to witness the ritual at one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas.

Following tradition, the temple doors were opened after seeking permission from Lord Veerbhadr. Priests performed a sacred abhisheka using Panchamrit, which includes milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juice. The Mahanirvani Akhara provided the sacred ash used for the Bhasma Aarti.

The deity was elaborately decorated with sandalwood, vermilion, cannabis, and fragrant flowers such as jasmine and roses. Lord Mahakal was also adorned with a silver crown and garlands made of figs and cannabis. The ceremony concluded with the offering of fruits, dried fruits, and sweets.
