Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain Conducts Large‑Scale Bhasma Aarti
On June 21, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, held the traditional Bhasma Aarti for the deity Baba Mahakal. The ceremony began after the early‑morning rites of Lord Veerbhadra, with drums and conches marking the opening of the deity's sanctum. Worshippers lined up from the previous night, and a large crowd witnessed the ritual, which included a water abhishek with Panchamrit (milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar and fruit juice) and the offering of Tripund, Tripund, damaru, bhang, sandalwood and Rama‑name leaves.
The temple priests concluded the ceremony with a grand arati, and police were deployed in significant numbers to maintain order among the devotees, who included visitors from across India and abroad.
