Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain Holds Grand Ashes Ritual with Tripund and Moon
On June 26, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain conducted a large‑scale bhasm arati for Baba Mahakal on the occasion of Jyestha Shukla Paksha Dwadasi. Devotees lined up through the night to witness the deity’s head adorned with the sacred tripund markings and a moon motif, with the embellishment applied using mava and diofruit.
The ceremony began with drums and the opening of the temple doors, followed by the anointment of the idol with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar and fruit juice, and the offering of Hari Om water. The ashes used were prepared from Kapila cow dung and medicinal herbs. Police were deployed in large numbers to maintain order among the crowd.
