Mahakaleshwar Temple performs special rituals for Hariyali Amavasya

At the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, special rituals were performed for Lord Mahakal to mark Hariyali Amavasya during the month of Sawan. As part of the traditional Bhasma Aarti, the deity was adorned with garlands made of green hemp leaves and green Belpatra leaves.

Thousands of devotees gathered at the temple, with many waiting in long queues overnight to witness the ceremony. Following temple traditions, the sanctum sanctorum doors were opened at 3:00 AM amidst the sound of drums, conch shells, and Vedic chants. Before the Bhasma Aarti, priests performed Jalabhishek and Panchamrit Abhishek. The use of green elements in the decoration symbolizes nature, prosperity, and the natural form of Shiva.

Due to the significance of the Sawan month and Hariyali Amavasya, the number of devotees was significantly higher than usual. Temple authorities and local administration implemented security and crowd management measures, including additional barricading and volunteers, to ensure smooth movement through the queues.
