Mahakaleshwar Temple’s Bhasma Aarti Draws Thousands of Devotees in Ujjain

Early on Friday, 7 August 2026, the world‑renowned Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, performed its daily Bhasma Aarti at Brahma‑muhurta. Priests first performed a Panchamrit abhishek using milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar, then adorned the deity with ash, flowers, jewellery and traditional garments before the ash offering ceremony. The ritual was accompanied by Vedic chants, drumbeats and the ringing of bells.

Thousands of worshippers from across India and abroad gathered, forming long queues from the pre‑dawn hours. Temple authorities deployed additional security personnel, barricades and volunteers to manage the crowd and ensure safety. The event coincided with the month of Sawan, a period of heightened pilgrim traffic.

The temple also introduced a new South‑Indian style prasadam, serving dishes such as idli, sambar and pulihora on Tuesdays and Fridays, expanding the traditional fare for the estimated 9,000 daily meals.
