Mahama Ayariga urges Ghanaian churches to fight pollution

Ghana’s Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called on faith-based organisations to assist the government in combating national pollution and waste management issues.

Speaking at the launch of the second Ecumenical Convention, Ayariga noted that growing waste levels are damaging Ghana’s international image. He specifically highlighted the Agbogbloshie area, describing it as one of the world’s most polluted sites, noting that waste heaps there have reached heights comparable to a ten-story building. He emphasized that addressing such environmental challenges requires collaborative efforts between religious groups, communities, and the government.
