Mahamudu Bawumia criticizes Ghana's NDC economic policies
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's economic performance during the NPP's National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
Bawumia argued that the NDC's flagship ‘24-hour economy’ policy has failed to create the promised employment for youth and artisans, describing it instead as a ‘24-hour demolition exercise’ regarding building demolitions for markets. He also noted that the Women’s Development Bank has yet to assist any women nearly two years into the administration.
Regarding the cost of living, Bawumia stated that while official inflation has fallen to 5%, the actual prices of goods and services remain significantly higher than in previous periods. He highlighted rising costs for transportation, fuel, rent, and electricity tariffs, which he said are placing immense pressure on small businesses and households. While acknowledging relative stability in the cedi, he noted that businesses still face high operational costs.
