Mahanadi River flooding washes liquor bottles downstream in Chhattisgarh
Following heavy rains and the release of water from the Gangrel Dam, the Mahanadi River has overflowed in the Abhanpur and Dhamtari regions of Chhattisgarh. The flooding caused a liquor shop in Nari village, Kurud, to be submerged, sending numerous plastic bottles of alcohol floating downstream toward Gobra Nawapara.
As the bottles drifted through the fast-moving currents, large crowds gathered at the Somwari Bazar bridge, which connects Raipur and Dhamtari, to retrieve them. Videos circulating on social media show locals using makeshift tools, such as bamboo poles with nets or cloths attached, to attempt to snag the bottles from the turbulent water.
Local authorities have issued warnings to citizens to stay away from rivers, bridges, and flooded areas due to the life-threatening currents. Officials noted that the risk of accidents is high given the intensity of the river's flow.
