Mahanadi River sweeps away over 20 buffaloes near Cuttack
More than 20 buffaloes were swept away by the strong currents of the Mahanadi River near Gate No. 77 of the Jobra barrage in Cuttack. The incident was discovered after a herd was spotted struggling in the fast-flowing water.
The Cuttack Fire Services launched a rescue operation immediately upon receiving reports. However, the high water flow and powerful current have significantly hampered efforts to bring the animals to safety. Despite ongoing attempts by rescue teams, the herd was reported to be carried downstream, and officials had not been able to trace the animals by the evening.
The circumstances regarding how the buffaloes entered the river remain unknown, and the ownership of the herd has not yet been determined.
