Mahaprabhu Jagannath film set for August 28 release
The animated feature film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’ is scheduled for a nationwide release in India on August 28. This marks a milestone as the first animated feature film from Odisha.
The film’s release was previously delayed after the Orissa High Court issued an interim stay on its original July 17 premiere date following a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a judicial review of the content. The production house appealed to the Supreme Court, noting the film’s CBFC ‘U’ certification and the financial impact on more than 300 theaters. The Supreme Court subsequently cleared the film for nationwide release.
Produced by Durga Prasad Dalai of Ele Animations and distributed by Cinepolis, the film is intended to instill cultural values and devotion in younger audiences. It follows the success of the animated series ‘Jay Jagannath’.
