Maharashtra accelerates $11B AI Innovation City with Tata Group
The Maharashtra Government is accelerating the development of an AI Innovation City near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. In partnership with the Tata Group, the project involves an $11 billion investment to establish a 300-acre hub focused on large-scale AI data centres, high-performance computing, semiconductors, and Global Capability Centers.
During the 6th Real Estate & Infrastructure Investors’ Summit (REIIS) 2026, officials highlighted that Maharashtra currently holds approximately 66% of India’s data-centre capacity. The new ecosystem is expected to be supported by new universities, healthcare infrastructure, and knowledge institutions to build a specialized talent base.
In a related infrastructure push, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) aims to complete all ongoing projects, including roads, tunnels, and metro corridors, by December 2028. This initiative seeks to achieve the ‘Mumbai in 59 Minutes’ vision by improving connectivity across the metropolitan region. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis noted that Maharashtra’s economy grew at 8.8%, outpacing the national average, with the real estate sector serving as a primary growth engine.
