Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh approve Agniveer quotas
The cabinets of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have approved new reservation policies to provide employment for ex-Agniveers in state uniformed services.
In Maharashtra, the cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, approved a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for former Agniveers across Group-C uniformed posts. This includes roles in the police force, fire services, coastal security, and correctional security. Notably, Maharashtra will allow direct recruitment for these individuals without requiring them to pass competitive examinations or undergo fresh training modules. Ex-Agniveers from the Indian Navy will be integrated directly into the state’s coastal security wing, with age limit relaxations applied to facilitate the transition.
In Madhya Pradesh, the state has approved a higher 20 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers across five specific uniformed posts: police constable, Special Armed Force (SAF) jawan, jail guard, forest guard, and excise constable. The policy aims to provide career continuity for the 75 per cent of recruits released from the armed forces following their four-year tenure under the central Agnipath scheme.
