Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh lead distinct Indian vehicle market segments

Data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for Q1 FY2026-27 reveals distinct regional demand patterns in the Indian automotive market. Maharashtra emerged as the leading market for passenger and commercial vehicles. Maharashtra recorded 1.47 lakh passenger vehicle sales, representing an 11.6% national market share, and led the commercial vehicle segment with 0.36 lakh units.

In contrast, Uttar Pradesh dominated the high-volume mass-market segments. The state accounted for 15.7% of national two-wheeler sales with 8.82 lakh units and was also the largest market for three-wheelers, accounting for 12% of the country's total sales with approximately 0.26 lakh units.

Nationally, India sold 12.74 lakh passenger vehicles, 56.29 lakh two-wheelers, 2.14 lakh three-wheelers, and 2.65 lakh commercial vehicles during the quarter. The Western Zone led in passenger and commercial vehicle sales, while the Southern Zone led in three-wheeler sales.
