Maharashtra authorities investigate river pollution in Thane and Sambhajinagar

Authorities in Maharashtra are taking steps to address rising pollution levels in the Valdhuni and Sukhna rivers. In Thane, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has collected water samples from the Valdhuni River following demands from the Buddha Bhumi Foundation. The foundation reported that the river is suffering from black, foul-smelling water caused by domestic sewage, industrial chemical waste, and solid waste, posing a threat to aquatic biodiversity and public health. They have called for GPS mapping of drains and scientific testing of chemical components.

In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Municipal Commissioner Amol Yedge inspected the Sukhna River following concerns that contaminated water from the Chikalthana industrial area was being discharged into the river. The commissioner has ordered a survey of local companies and instructed officials to issue notices to violators. The administration plans to coordinate with the Pollution Control Board to investigate the sources of contamination and ensure compliance with environmental regulations to protect the river's restoration efforts.
