Maharashtra bus conductor returns lost ₹24,000 to elderly passenger

A bus conductor in Maharashtra, India, returned ₹24,000 to a 75-year-old woman, Kasabai Gaikwad, more than a year after she lost the money on a bus journey in April 2024.

While traveling with her ailing husband, Gaikwad accidentally left a bag containing the cash and a medical prescription at the Malegaon bus stand. The conductor, Raju, discovered the bag during a routine seat check. Although he waited at the station and attempted to use the contact information on the prescription, the money remained unclaimed for a long period.

The reunion occurred during a routine age verification check. When Gaikwad boarded a bus, Raju requested her Aadhaar card to verify her eligibility for free travel for seniors. Upon seeing her name, he recognized her as the owner of the lost funds. After verifying the details with senior officers at the bus depot, the money was returned to her.
