Maharashtra Cabinet approves two new private health universities
The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the establishment of two new private health sciences universities to expand medical education in the state.
In Nagpur, the VSPM Academy of Higher Education will establish the Lata Mangeshkar University. The institution plans to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-specialty courses in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, and nursing. The university will utilize the academy’s existing 1,138-bed hospital to provide clinical training and practical patient exposure.
In Ahilyanagar, the Cabinet approved a proposal from the Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation to set up a private health sciences university. This institution will also provide medical, postgraduate, and super-specialty programs, supported by its 830-bed hospital facility. Both approvals followed inspections and verification by committees acting under National Medical Commission guidelines.
