Maharashtra CM orders aid for families after Moshi garbage depot building collapse

A massive mound of waste at the Moshi garbage‑depot’s waste‑to‑energy plant in Pune collapsed onto a three‑storey municipal building after days of heavy rain, trapping dozens of people. Senior officials launched a multi‑agency rescue operation, deploying earth‑moving equipment to clear debris.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a review meeting in Pune with Pimpri‑Chinchwad officials, including MLA Mahesh Landge, Mayor Ravi Landge, the police commissioner and the municipal commissioner. He was briefed on the rescue progress and directed that all necessary assistance be provided to the families of the victims. The chief minister also ordered an accelerated biomining process for legacy waste at Moshi and the creation of a dedicated system to handle about 100 tonnes of fresh waste generated daily, to prevent further buildup.

Family member Satish Gayakwad criticized the response, questioning the insufficient deployment of earth‑movers and the absence of company representatives at the site.
