Maharashtra court sentences two traffickers to 10 years in Ganja seizure case

A special NDPS court in Biloli, Nanded, has convicted two drug traffickers in connection with a massive seizure of 1,127 kg of Ganja in Maharashtra. The accused, identified as truck driver Gokul Narayan Rajput and co-driver Sunil Yadav Mahajan, were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each individual, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in case of default. The ruling follows an investigation by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Unit, which intercepted a truck near Manjram village in the Naigaon taluka on November 15, 2021. During the search, officers recovered 49 bags of contraband.

The prosecution successfully demonstrated that the accused were in conscious possession of a commercial quantity of the drug and could not provide a satisfactory explanation. In addition to the prison sentences, the court ordered the confiscation of the vehicle and other seized items under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
