Maharashtra doctor suspended after viral video shows drinking in hospital mortuary

Dr. Vaibhav Avinash Mhaske has been suspended by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) following a viral video that allegedly shows him hosting a drinking session inside the post-mortem room at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Maharashtra.

The incident occurred on a Thursday night when a citizen, who was waiting outside the hospital to obtain a death certificate, reportedly looked into the post-mortem room and discovered the doctor in an intoxicated state. The video clip circulating on social media depicts food and bottles on a table within the facility.

In response to the public outrage, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi issued the suspension order, citing a breach of the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules. The PCMC has also initiated a formal departmental inquiry and intends to file a chargesheet against the medical officer within 15 days.
