Maharashtra expands 108 emergency ambulance service with 1,756 new vehicles

The Maharashtra state government is expanding its 108 emergency ambulance service by adding 1,756 advanced vehicles to its fleet. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the new units at his official residence, Nandanvan, and directed officials to deploy them to the public as quickly as possible.

As part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ initiative, an initial phase of 150 ambulances will be launched immediately. The total fleet of 1,756 vehicles includes 255 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances for critical patients, 1,204 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances, 36 specialized neonatal ambulances equipped with incubators, 166 bike ambulances for congested urban areas, and 25 boat ambulances (15 river and 10 sea) for coastal and remote waterborne regions.

The vehicles are equipped with modern medical technology, including ECG machines, portable ventilators, pulse oximeters, suction pumps, and oxygen delivery systems. Additionally, a direct communication system has been installed, allowing paramedics to consult with hospital doctors in real-time during transit to receive medical guidance for patients.
