Maharashtra FDA Commissioner leads major food safety crackdown

Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner of the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has led extensive enforcement actions against food safety violations across Maharashtra. Since taking office, the FDA has conducted over 3,000 spot checks targeting food businesses, hotels, restaurants, and warehouses to ensure quality standards.

Recent enforcement measures include the suspension of food permits for four Pizza Hut outlets, as well as actions against various hotels, cricket clubs, and prominent restaurants. The Pune division has seen the highest number of license suspensions. Additionally, inspectors have issued 948 improvement notices regarding serious deficiencies in hygiene and cold-chain management.

Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat publicly praised Mundhe’s efforts in a viral video. In the clip, she expressed gratitude for the strict regulations, stating, ‘Because of you, I can now eat without any worry. Your strict rules and ideals are keeping us all safe.’
